Since 1945, Great Lakes Calcium Corporation has been processing calcium carbonate
from high calcium limestone that we bring into our dock at Green Bay, Wisconsin.
Our primary market for the first forty years of business was the agricultural
feed industry. They required a very pure calcium carbonate with specific particle
size distribution for their various animal feeds. The feed labeling laws require
consistency and purity of product, and we were able to meet and exceed their
specifications, and gave them the advantage of a reliable local supplier.
In addition to serving the agricultural marketplace,
Great Lakes Calcium Corporation has become very involved in industrial markets
for calcium carbonate. We process the calcium carbonate that is used in
papermaking. We were also involved in the initial research and supply of
calcium carbonate for the capture of sulfur dioxide in fossil fuel burning
boilers. Currently, we supply fluidized bed boilers, limestone injection
systems and various air scrubbing devices. Recently, we have provided engineering
firms with calcium carbonate to adjust the pH and tie up contaminants in
the treatment of industrial wastes prior to landfill or incineration. In
the past five years we have supplied calcium carbonate to remediation sites,
where it is used to prevent heavy metals in contaminated soil from becoming
soluble and polluting the ground water.
We have designed flexibility
into our process equipment that allows us to work closely with customers
to produce the optimal product for them. Being locally owned helps us in
making decisions in a timely manner, and responding quickly to customers
needs. The use of low-cost vessel transportation for our raw materials enables
us to provide our products at a very competitive price. We look forward
to the challenge of working on new applications for calcium carbonate throughout
Wisconsin and neighboring states. |
